Week #2: Meeting my favorite author

Hello there everyone!

This week’s subject will be one of my other true passions besides penpalling: reading. Yes, I have always been a bookworm. I’m reading all kinds of books, from thrillers to science-fiction and from fantasy to romance. I’m not really ranking m favorite authors, but if I did, one who would undoubtedly have her place among the top 5, or even the top 3, is the Swedish crime writer Camilla Läckberg. And as you’ve probably guessed by the title of this week’s post: yes, I had a chance to meet her!

I found out about her books by chance, five (or so) years ago. I was just skimming through the crime & thriller shelf at the local library when I got attracted by the Scandinavian-looking name (in case you didn’t know yet, I have always had a thing for everything coming from up north). I picked the book, started reading it as soon as I got home, and was done with it the same evening. So that’s how I read her first book, “The Ice Princess”. In one sitting, because I couldn’t put it down. And I found out later that it wasn’t even the best book she has written. Then I devoured all her other books, and when I had been though all those which had been published in France already, impatientely waited for the new releases.

And a month ago, a friend of mine who also is a fan of Camilla’s book told me that she’d attend the international crime book fair in our city! I could not believe my ears at first. I mean, the author I have worshiped for 5 years or so was going to attend a book fair in my city, and I was going to get a chance to meet her? That was too beautiful to be true.

At the conference

But that really was true. And it finally happened last week-end. First she held a conference on Saturday. It took place in a church (that is also used for classical music recitals) and it was really crowded, I could only get a sit on the backrow and didn’t had any headphones for the translation. Luckily she didn’t speak in her mother tongue but in English, so I could understand everything. That really was interesting! She told us about her beginning as a writer, how she writes, how she handles the fact that she now is a very popular authors, her future writing projects, etc. The conference was one hour long but I really didn’t see the time running!

At the book signing

Then on Sunday I went to the main hall of the book fair, where authors were doing book signing and that’s when I finally had theopportunity to talk face to face to Camilla. Well, it only was for a couple of minutes, I didn’t say more than “Hello” and “Thanks” to her, but still, it is such a great moment to be face to face with an author you admire so much. These two minutes were definitely worth the half hour I spent queuing before it was my turn to get my book signed by her!

She mispelled my name but oh well, I forgive her :)

Who is your favorite author ? Ever had a chance to meet them?
